Argenta Bead Company [Little Rock, AR]

Just a hop, skip and a jump away from my beloved Root Cafe, is Argenta Bead Company.  I have been wanting to go here for foreverrrrr, but I don’t get downtown too often.  Now that I’ve been to Argenta Bead, my life is better… brighter…happier… okay, I’ll stop being overly dramatic. But seriously, my creative juices were recharged when I walked out the door!  This is one of those places where your mind goes completely wild with all of the possibilities of things you can make.  They have every shape, size and color you can imagine as well as the jewelry making supplies to complete your project.  I could’ve spent hours in here, but I decided that it would be in the best interest of my bank account if I didn’t.  If you are in or around Little Rock, you’ve got to get over here.  So fun!!

They also make custom jewelry here!  You can bring them something or buy beads from them and they will make you custom jewelry!  How cool is that?

Here are the ammmmazing beads I got, I guess I was on a green kick!

I made this really cool two tiered necklace.  These beads reminded me of vintage jadeite!  Disclaimer:  I am NOT a jewelry maker, I’ve got bracelets and a few necklaces I’ve made, but I’m a complete newbie here.  It is definitely something that I’d love to explore though.

Using an eye pin, I strung my beads evenly divided on two eye pins.  So I ended up with 2 strands of 12 beads each.

I then used my round nose pliers to make another loop on the other side of the eye pin.

I wanted the second tier to hang lower, so I trimmed my necklace down and used that piece of chain to attach to either end of one of the bead strands.

I attached the jump rings and voila!  Below is the the finished tiered necklace and the other two beads I got for myself.

The Root Cafe [Little Rock, AR]

The Root Cafe [Little Rock, AR]

I’ve kinda had writer’s block…  After radio silence for a few weeks, I’ve figured out what to write about.  It all happened when we went out for brunch today at my new favorite place and I was like “duh, write about how amazing this place is”.  Thank you to the brunch Gods at The Root Cafe for the inspiration.

We came here for lunch a couple of weeks ago.  At the time I didn’t really know a lot about this place, but I am so happy this is where we decided to eat!  When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the laid back atmosphere.  Everyone is super friendly- patrons and staff.  I tried the Spicy Bahn Mi sandwich (minus jalapeños), which I’m now referring to as “my soul mate sandwich”.

They source most of their ingredients from Arkansas farms.  You can actually see exactly where the ingredients come from!  See?  Here’s a map, right on the wall when you walk in:

Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 7.17.45 PM.png

The decor is so cute.  It’s super eclectic and I think those wrapped tables are the bee’s knees!

Lot’s of areas to eat outside, if you are into that sort of thing.  I’m not.

This place is bumpin’, so be prepared to wait in line for a bit.  I promise it is worth it and it goes pretty quickly.  I had the biscuits and gravy this morning and it was delicious.  My husband had an omelette and it was freakin’ good.

Hey Root Cafe, if you are reading this, can I have a barrel of whatever dressing you put on your salads?  I could seriously drink it with a straw.

We also grabbed some blueberry jam on our way out.  We just tried it on some buttered toast and it’s so yummy!  My husband is sort of a jam connoisseur and it got his stamp of approval.

All in all, it’s a great place to be.  Everyone is happy to be there, the food is fresh and delicious and it’s a fun/ laid-back atmosphere.  Go.

May Favorites.

May Favorites.

I made it my personal mission to use my long weekend to be as lazy as possible.  I pretty much succeeded, with the exception of a few loads of laundry and dishes that got done.  Needless to say, I didn’t get around to doing this blog post.  So here it is for you on this lovely- what day is it?- oh, Wednesday!

1.   Your Good Skin- Rapid Rescue Treatment

Honestly, I picked this up because the store was out of Differin Gel and I wasn’t expecting anything amazing from it.  Well color me happy, because I actually really like this product and I’ll go for this instead of the Differin next time.  Sometimes Differin would cause my chin/ cheek area to peel, this is more gentle than Differin, but is still effective in helping reduce breakouts.  I haven’t experienced any peeling with the Rapid Rescue Treatment!  Wahoo.

2.  American Eagle Shorts

Apparently it’s still necessary to wear actual clothes to public places during the Summer, no matter how uncomfortable or how much the sweat is making them cling to you.  I went on the hunt for some new shorts and I’ve been LIVING in these lately.  Plus side, they are stretch denim and oh my gosh- so comfy.  Feel like doing a herkie?  Jumping jacks?  Girl, go for it.  You can do anything you want in these shorts.

3.  Bissell Pet Spot Eraser

If you have a pet, you need one of these.  We all love and adore our pets, but you have to be prepared for when your dog inevitably leaves some kind of stain on your freshly steam cleaned carpets (ahem, I’m looking at you Daphney).  This little guy is super easy to get out and quickly take care of whatever spot you need it to.  It’s surprisingly powerful!

4.  Sensationail Gel Polish

Typically, I paint my nails every Sunday night and by the following Sunday they would be super chipped, even with a good base & top coat.  Not that there is absolutely ANYTHING wrong with getting your nails done professionally, but I’m just trying to help get my husband through this Master’s program- did you know books alone are anywhere from $150-$300?!  My nails are the last thing I am trying to fit in my budget.  The Sensationail Gel is lasting a solid two weeks with no chips and it’s protecting my nails from breaking!  I highly recommend giving this a try if you are decent at painting your own nails.

Well that was possibly the most random assortment of monthly favorites I’ve ever seen.  I hope you enjoyed this post!

April Favorites.

April Favorites.

Another month has completely flown by and Summer is already creeping in.  It was full blown muggy Summer weather here in Arkansas today.  Let me tell you a secret, I have another alter ego, I call her “hot Lindsey”.  I sometimes have to apologize for her behavior, she can be a royal biotch.  I swear I’m allergic to Summer.

Anyways, I tried a couple new things things this month that I wanted to share with you guys.  Let me know if you end up trying any of these!

  1. Sugar Kitten Mask by I Dew Care (Ulta)

First of all, this is the cutest mask I’ve ever tried.  It has pearl and ruby powder in it, so it’s got a holographic sheen when you put it on.  It claims to be a hydrating mask and it does just that.  I definitely feel hydrated and glowy after I use it!

2.  Native Union Retro Handset (Amazon)

This was one of those random things that made it’s way onto my Amazon wishlist (along with things like magic wand salt & pepper shakers), so one day I just went ahead an ordered it.  I’m not huge on talking on the phone, but I keep this in my car and use it while I’m chit chatting on my way home from work.  It also says it reduces 99% of radiation from your phone.  #winning

3.  Derma-E Firming Eye Cream (Ulta)

This is honestly embarrassing… did anyone else see this picture going around?

Screen Shot 2018-05-02 at 8.03.34 PM.png

Welp.  I definitely had one of those… Remember the little palm tree and the heart?  Why was this a thing?  Anyways, since I’m old now, I’ve started using an eye cream from Ulta and I really like it.  It makes my eyes look more awake, even if the rest of my body doesn’t wake up with the rest of the human race, I can at least look like I’m awake.  Fake it ’til ya make it.

4.  Blush Backpack with Metal Detail (Zara)

Have you ever been perusing online and have something stop you in your tracks?  Like love at first sight?  There wasn’t a single second of hesitation while I gleefully entered my credit card information to make this gorgeous back pack mine all mine.  IT IS LESS THAN $30!!!  I’m all about that backpack life, I’m also all about that thrifty life.

Summer Patio.

Summer Patio.

Since I missed blogging last week, let’s start off with a funny story. Let me preface this by telling you about my mom. She’s hilarious without even trying. This weekend we were shopping at Target (shocker) and they had all of these singer/ band tee shirts on the wall. She was ooing and ahing over them and says “ooo they have Prince, Witney Huston and Two Pack”. I literally dropped to the floor laughing, I seriously could not hold myself up. I was on the floor, smacking the ground, and laugh-crying all of my mascara off, while some grumpy preteen stared at me. I’m sure Tupac was mistaken for Two Pack at some other point in his career.

Now for my post, I was dead set on getting my porch summery and happy looking this weekend. Well, as I was doing this, it was a whopping 40 degrees outside. I got these amazing solar globe lights to string across the ceiling of my patio, but I was kinda freezing. So that didn’t happen. If you live in an apartment and you don’t have power to your patio, these globe lights are the bomb! They will turn on at night automatically or there is a button where you can turn them off if you want.

I was super excited to find this rug at At Home (formerly Garden Ridge). It is made from a material that I can only describe as being similar to a plastic straw. It is completely outdoor friendly and you can get a 5’ x7’ for $19.99 (say what?!). They have a few different patterns to choose from as well. A cute, colorful rug can set the entire color scheme for your outdoor area. You can pull a certain color from your rug and bring that in through pillows and art, if you have a spot for it.

Quick Tip:
A super easy look for lanterns is to fill the base with reindeer moss and add an -outdoor- battery operated candle. This can honestly transition through all seasons, you can add pumpkins during fall and red berries for the holidays.

March Favorites.

March Favorites.

I was planning on putting this post up next week, but I didn’t finish either of the other two posts I was working on. So, this one is going up a little early. I’m trying to stay consistent, ok?!

I’m going to start off by telling you a little story.  Yesterday, I was walking my dog when I hear someone yelling “Maple!!! Hey, Maple!!!”.  I look up to see a lady in a blue robe waving down at Maple from her balcony.  It was 5:30 on Friday night.  I now think this lady -whatever her name is- is the total  When I am her age, I can only hope that I’m in my robe at 5:30 on a Friday night, waving at random dogs I love.

Ok, now for the things I was loving this month (besides the robed dog lady):

1.  After several long months, my uncovered toes finally made an appearance.  Friday was sandal weather, so I went with it.  -Does anyone else walk funny in sandals when you first start wearing them again?  No?  Oh ok.-  I picked these up at Target last week, they are super cute & comfy and I love the color.  They are available in black, cognac and lavender for only $12.99, I think I’m going back for the black ones.  They actually have really good padding as well, which I wasn’t expecting for such a great price point.

2.  Ok, this one I will SWEAR by.  First of all, I love all of the Olly probiotics I’ve tried.  I’ve tried all of the probiotics and even the dissolvable sticks.  They are all amazing and I am obsessed with them!  I can honestly tell a difference if I’ve forgotten to take them for a few days.  I definitely recommend trying these and they are delicious!

3.  This is seriously the MOST excited I’ve been about a product in a while!  I am suuuuuper sensitive to smells, like if someone has on a super floral or powdery perfume, it will give me an instant severe headache.  I haven’t bought perfume in a few years, I can usually wear a lightly scented body spray, but that’s about as scented as I can do.  On a whim, I picked this up at Target a couple of weeks ago.  They had several scents to choose from, but this one was my favorite by far.  If I could dream up a perfume, it would be this.  It’s citrus-y and slightly woodsy at the same time, that is by far my favorite type of scent.  It is vegan, cruelty free and made with essential oils- if that kinda thing floats your boat.  This is a staple for me now for sure and I can’t wait to try other scents from them!

4.  One of my lovely puppies (probably the giant doodle) ripped a seam on my last coverlet, so I used this as an excuse to get a new one.  I think I deserve it after I got my arm stuck in the ripped part while I was sleeping one night.  This one was super affordable (less than $40) and had a pretty, subtle stitched diamond pattern. It’s so hard to tell whether ivory/cream is going to be pretty from online pictures. Most of the time it’s too yellow. This shade of ivory is beautiful! It’s warm, but not yellow at all. It’s got the right amount of thickness that you want in a coverlet and comes with two shams. In the hot summer we go with just a coverlet and in colder month we do a duvet and a coverlet. This fit the bill for what I needed and our budget.  Here it is on my bed:

5.  Ok, this is a topic near and dear to my heart.  If you see these chips (specifically these two flavors) get them, I’m serious, run to them.  I consider myself a chip connoisseur, at any given time I will always have a wide variety of chips in my house.  I love them and they love me- but Rap Snacks love me the most.  One day, my husband brought home a bag of my beloved ‘Bar-B-Quin’ with my Honey’ chips and I was totally not expecting what was about to happen to me.  My life changed and my world was opened up to new flavorful possibilities.  I was happy with where my life was at, just enjoying one BBQ chip at a time.  Then, once again, the BEST husband ever brought home a bag of the Hot Chili Pepper and Lime Crunchy Curls.  Once more I found myself in some sort of chip induced euphoria.  The bag says there are three servings in it, I beg to differ.  I don’t even like spicy anything, yet I find myself at the gas station buying up bags of these cheese curls.  To say I recommend them is an understatement.  I buy mine at a Shell station, keep an eye out for these, you won’t be sorry.

That’s it for my monthly favorites!  Thank you so much for reading this post, see you next week.

Welcome back to another edition of “Lindsey is obsessed with Ikea floating shelves”.  When you live in an apartment and you are obsessed with crafting, you have to get creative with your storage…

These are the same floating shelves I used in the bathroom, except I bought them in a bundle.  It comes with (1) shelf and (2) brackets (31 1/8″L x 7 1/2″D) for $7.99!

All of the apothecary jars and hurricane came from Home Goods & TJ Maxx, they always have a great selection of jars and they’re priced really well.  I’m using them here to store my wool roving.

This chicken wire storage caddy was given to me by my lovely boss when she was having one of her weekend purges.  I’m not sure where it came from, but I’ve linked something similar to it here:

The acrylic container is sent down from Heaven…um, I mean it’s from The Container Store.  I really like that it has separate compartments for pens, scissors and then a larger spot in the front.  My stapler and tape dispenser fit perfectly in this spot.

What?  You don’t have a handmade clay replica of BOOOOOOOKKKKK from Hocus Pocus on your desk?  Don’t look at me like that.

I also used some of these Tjena boxes on the top shelf (not pictured) and on my shelf to store small things, like highlighters and extra pencils (that don’t have cute sayings on them…boring).

I’ve also got this shelf in my office ($14.99!), it is a work horse.  I’ve got all of my other crafting supplies in storage boxes.  Glue, pastels, acrylic paints, etc.  This shelf is galvanized metal, so you can load it down and it will hold everything.
